Casablanca

Catch the flavor of Casablanca in the open spice markets and herb alist shops on the Quarter Balilida in New Medina. A delightful blending of French and Moroccan cultures is found in street bazaars where artisans and enchanters barter their crafts a mere stone´s throw from the hushed secret gardens of the Royal Palace.

Attractions

Casablanca's beaches are found to the east of the city along the Corniche. This is a very trendy area with four-star hotels, restaurants and bars.

Shopping

Handicrafts, copper ware, pottery, embroidered clothing, carpets and silver jewelry may be of interest. Bargaining in the souq (bazaar) is an accepted practice; prices are fixed in more upscale stores and government operated craft shops. The major shopping area is found around the United Nations Square. Many of the larger establishments accept major credit cards.

Food

As befits a cosmopolitan city, eating establishments come in a wide range of choices. There are traditional local dishes, such as roast mutton, harira (spicy bean soup), and touajen tagine (meat and chicken stew), usually served with couscous. French and international cuisine is also featured in many restaurants. Some of the best establishments are found along Boulevard Mohammed el Hansali and on the way to the beach resorts.

Currency

The local currency is the dirham.
